There is a well-established tradition of geometric methods in combinatorial representation theory (Gelfand, Zelevinsky, Littelman, Pak, etc). In this talk we follow this and we discuss a counterexample to a conjecture of Berenstein and Kirillov on Kostka numbers and Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns. This is joint work with Tyrrell McAllister.
