Process Overview
1. Answer any questions given above.
2. Verify you have a destination email service for your campus (@ucdavis.edu) email by logging into https://computingaccounts.ucdavis.edu/cgi-bin/services/index.cgi?action=ManageServices&From=main_menu and verify you have GOOG service enabled for Google or EXCH for Microsoft. We recommend GOOG (Google) unless you are already familiar with Microsoft o365 email and enjoy it. This can be switched later.
3. Verify you can actually log into your campus (@ucdavis.edu) email by logging into https://mail.google.com/a/ucdavis.edu (for Google) or https://365.ucdavis.edu (for o365). You can also configure an email client to connect to either via IMAP.
4. Ensure you do not have your campus (@ucdavis.edu) email being forwarded to math by going to https://computingaccounts.ucdavis.edu/cgi-bin/services/index.cgi?action=ChangeMailID&From=main_menu For example if you want campus (@ucdavis.edu) email service provided by Google pick “Deliver to DavisMail (Gmail + Google Apps).
5. Inform us that you have performed steps 1-4 and are using your campus (@ucdavis.edu) email and we do some testing and set up a forward for you from your math email address to your campus (@ucdavis.edu) email address.
6. We begin the migration process which should be between 2 hours and 2 weeks.
During the migration process you will:
* Be able to actively use your campus (@ucdavis.edu) email account
* Continue to receive email sent to your @math.ucdavis.edu address which will be available in your campus (@ucdavis.edu) account.
* No longer be able to send email from your @math.ucdavis.edu address or to log into the math server to read old email stored there.
* See old math email appearing in your campus (@ucdavis.edu) email account.
You may begin steps 1-5 immediately. Or if you have any questions or concerns before or while doing so please let us know.
Gmail Web UI quirks for new users:
- Email sent to yourself will appear in your Sent folder, but not your Inobx.
- By default email messages which are part of a thread will be represented in the index by last email in thread.
