Text: Ross, ``Elementary Analysis: The Theory of Calculus''. Some additional topics, if time permits, will be taken from other books (notes distributed at this web page).
Description: This is the second of three parts of an introductory course of mathematical analysis. Some of the key concepts covered are Differentiation, Riemann and Riemann-Stieltjes Integrals, sequences of functions and multivariate functions. This corresponds to chapters 21-36 of the text (with some material from other sources possibly).
Besides learning analysis, the students learn to think and write as mathematicians do. Giving complete rigorous proofs of abstract theorems and learning to provide counterexamples are important parts the course. This is hard deep material and requires effort to master.
Grading policy:
The final grades will be based on 7
weekly homeworks (5 points each) two midterms (40 points each February 6
and March 8), and a comprehensive final exam (30 points, March 18).
Please note that NO late homeworks will be accepted, instead I
will drop the lowest homework. Similarly no make-up
exams will be possible, instead I will drop the lowest score of the
two midterms. To pass this class you need a minimum of 60 points.
WARNING: This is hard deep material and requires effort to master.
