- Some
writing tips by Janko Gravner.
- A
collection of famous logical puzzles.
- Midterm 1 will be on Friday, May 1, 2020, in class. It covers
Sections 1.1-1.6, 2.1, 2.2 and 2.4 from the book. Topics:
propositions (esp. determining whether logical expressions are
true or false), quantifiers and proofs involving them, proofs
(direct, backward, contraposition, contradiction, biconditional
statements), operations involving sets, mathematical induction.
Section 2.3 (families of sets) will not be on this
midterm, although you will have to know this material in the
future. You will need to understand all examples covered in the
lecture and on the homework assignments. Practice

relations, equivalence relations, partitions, functions as
relations, composition of functions, one-to-one and onto
functions, bijections, inverse functions, images and inverse
images of sets. Section 2.5 (on induction) will not be
