MyMathLab Info
MAT 21A Section A, Winter 2007; CRN: 50758, 50759, 50760, 50761
Prof. Thomas Strohmer
We will be doing homework online with MyMathLab. This has many
advantages as you will see.
It normally costs $40, but you will all be getting it for
FREE. MyMathLab is an interactive website
where you can:
- Do homework your instructor assigns.
- Get personalized study plans with exercises that match your book.
- Get help when you need it from multimedia learning aids like
videos
and animations.
- Talk to a live tutor via a toll free number.
- Self-test to improve your math skills or take tests.
What do I need to get started?
You will need the following:
- A valid email address.
- A student access code. This is inside your MyMathLab red software
packet. If you did not recieve one, you need to go to the Davis bookstore to get it.
- The Course ID: strohmer93435
What steps do I take next? (Please read this even if you already have your MyMathLab account.)
Follow the steps below. Be careful in entering your name on Step 4.
- Go to
http://www.coursecompass.com
and click on Register if you are a first time user. If you
already
have your own account from your previous courses, click on Log In.
- If you are a first time user, enter your six-word student access
code
(We give you this. It is in
your MyMathLab red software packet),
school zip code (95616) and country.
- Enter the Course ID: strohmer93435
- If you are a first time user, you are now requested to fill in
your information. Please do the following:
- Enter your last name followed by a comma, then
your first name (followed by your middle name as your UCD student
record if you have a middle name) in the
First Name box.
For example, if I were student, then I would enter: Strohmer, Thomas
- Enter your Student ID in the Last Name box.
For example, if my SID were 012-34-5678, then I would enter: 012345678
- Note: It is very important for you to enter your name EXACTLY as it appears in your UCD records in the First
Name box, and your SID in the
Last Name box. This is how we will assign your homework grades.
If you make an error, it may results in your getting a 0 HW grade.
If you make an error, please correct it yourself by February 1st, 2007.
- If you already have your MyMathLab account, please double check whether
your First Name and Last Name boxes were filled as described above.
To check this, do the following:
- Log in to your account and pick "Personal Information"
in Tools menu in the right side of the page.
- This pops up a new window that says "Log In to Your
Pearson Account" and prompts your password. Typing in your password
brings you to your Account
Summary page.
- The first line in Your Account Information lists:
Title, First Name, and Last Name. Check whether these First Name and
Last Name
agree with the specifications I described above.
So, using the same example above, if I were a student, the list should
be:
Title: Mr. First
Name: Mulase, Motohico Last Name:
012345678
- If this line is incorrect, click the orange button "Edit
Account Information" to do the correction.
- It is your own responsibility to follow this. Please correct any error by February 1st, 2007.
- Create your unique Login Name and Password. I recommend
that you use your email address as your login name.
- Return to www.coursecompass.com
and log in. At the Welcome page,
click on the course you are taking (21A_strohmer).
- The first time you enter the site from your computer and any time
you use a new computer, click on the software Installation Wizard on the
Announcements page or on the navigation buttons on the bottom left
side of the screen. This wizard will walk you through the installation
of the software you will need to use the MyMathLab resources.
Note: the software may already be installed in the university computer
labs. Check with the lab administrator if you wish to use these
computers.
